Find Your Family

Do you suspect you are eligible for Italian dual citizenship but don’t quite know where your family was from in Italy?

We have a service for that.

With our unique Find Your Family program, we can do the genealogical legwork to figure out what part of Italy your ancestor was from. We’ll use demographic data to pinpoint a region, a province, and a comune of birth for your ancestor, information you can later use to complete your Italian dual citizenship application.

We speak Italian

We speak Italian

Most demographic information on Italy’s provinces, regions, and towns is available only in Italian. If you are a non-Italian speaker, it may be difficult to use this info to find your family. That’s where we come in!

We know where to look

We know where to look

Italians tend not to move around. So we’ll use the most up-to-date demographic information to find the area in Italy with the most instances of your ancestral last name. We’ll do the heavy lifting so you don’t have to!

How It Works

You contact us with information about your Italian ancestor. You can send copies of vital records. Or, you can even tell us family lore. As long as we have a good idea of the last name, we can start our search to find your family.

We find your family using a two-pronged search method

First, we’ll search various online U.S. repositories. Some of these records may list your ancestor’s birthplace. If we’re lucky, we’ll get an exact match hit. At the same time, we’ll also search on the Italian side.

Then, we’ll search using available Italian demographical information. We’ll try to pinpoint the area of Italy where your last name is most common. Because Italians don’t move a lot, this information tends to be accurate.

Then, we’ll send off certified e-mails (up to 20; additional fees apply to extra e-mails) to each single comune with your ancestor’s date of birth and possible name at birth. If a record can be found, we’ll forward it to you. You can then use it to continue your Italian dual citizenship application.

Cost

The fee for this service is $500. It includes the following:

  • Up to 10 hours of genealogical research;
  • Digital copies of any records we find in U.S. repositories (such as naturalization records);
  • An Italian birth certificate for your ancestor, if found.
  • Up to 20 e-mails to Italian comuni on your behalf.

After the 20th e-mail, our firm bills at an hourly rate of $50/hour for sending e-mails.

Turnaround times vary.

Some comuni respond very quickly. Others may take months. Nevertheless, we will keep you updated throughout the process. We will cc you on all communications with each town.
